Point Dume State Beach and Preserve

Point Dume State Beach and Preserve is home to the ultimate Malibu beach experience. Here you’ll find a beautiful expanse of sandy beach, overhanging cliffs, headlands, and rocky coves. These features make it an ideal spot for lounging, enjoying the sun, and observing the natural wonder of the pacific ocean. You can also fish, dive, swim, or surf the waves.

Point Dume State Beach and Preserve also has a short hiking trail that leads to views of the Santa Monica Mountains, Santa Monica Bay, and even Catalina Island on a clear day. This area of Point Dome has a mix of dunes and coastal bluff terrain, enabling you to enjoy the views. Upon reaching the summit, you’ll be rewarded with a viewing platform and some more paths, which lead to more isolated, lesser-known beaches if you want to get away from the hubbub of crowds.

The Getty Villa Museum

The Getty Villa Museum was designed based on the Roman Villa Dei Papiri ruins of Herculaneum, originally established in 1974 by John Paul Getty, an oil magnate. At first, it didn’t impress art critics much, but after nine years of renovations by expert architects, the Getty Villa Museum reopened in 2006 to greater renown. It’s now considered a must-see in an area close to Malibu. The Getty Villa is a museum devoted to antiquities from the Mediterranean that John Paul Getty had collected over the years.

The Getty Villa is home to over 1,200 unique Greek and Roman artifacts on display. Most of the artifacts date back to between 6,500 B.C. and 500 A.D. The antiquities have wide-ranging themes, from the Trojan War to ancient gods and goddesses. These remarkable treasures are displayed in a couple of hundred rooms, each celebrating the unique theme of the treasures inside.

Wandering the grounds outside, you can enjoy a lovely English ivy and rose garden. This lush landscape is also home to stately Roman statues. The Getty Villa is home to the University of California’s Archaeological and Ethnographic Conservation program. Surprisingly enough, tickets are free! However, you must book one in advance. Malibu Pier and Surfrider Beach

This pier is at Malibu Surfrider Beach and is filled with little boutiques and eateries. Many people choose to fish off the pier or enjoy the beach and ocean views. Surfrider Beach is one of the prime spots for surfing in all of Malibu. The pier is also a great spot to hire a boat, whether fishing in open waters or enjoying a boat ride in the Pacific Ocean.

While at Malibu Pier, check out Malibu Farm, a farm-to-table restaurant with fresh, local, organic ingredients. They have two restaurants on the pier, the sit-down patio restaurant Malibu Farm, at the entrance to the pier, and Malibu Farm Cafe, with counter seating, for a casual quick bite, at the other end of the pier. Their cauliflower crust pizza, fish tacos, and grass-fed burgers are stand-out dishes. Most of all, you can enjoy the can’t-miss view while you eat. Malibu Pier and Surfrider Beach are located at 23050 and 23200 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, respectively.

Zuma Beach

Located at 30000 Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, Zuma Beach is a quintessential Malibu beach found along the East Pacific Coast Highway. It’s the most extensive beach in Malibu, with 105 acres of land, including 1.8 miles of pristine beachfront. Zuma Beach has ample parking, beach wheelchairs, and various facilities.

You can lounge on Zuma Beach’s golden sands, build a sandcastle, or play a game of beach volleyball. With plenty of lifeguards, you can swim and surf safely. Fishing is also allowed, with a permit, or there’s a ridge around the beach where you can hike and enjoy the gorgeous view. The surf at Zuma Beach has cooler waters than other area beaches, so come prepared.

After taking in the sun and spray, you may have worked up an appetite, and luckily, you can grab a meal without having to leave the beach. Zuma Beach has a variety of restaurants, from casual spots to fancy fine dining, so you’ll be sure to find something to satisfy your hunger and suit your taste.

Rosenthal Wine Bar & Patio

Head to the Rosenthal tasting room for wine tasting just off the beach in Malibu. In this casual atmosphere, you can sample wines from the full selection of Rosenthal Estate Wines while live bands entertain you. Rosenthal wines is the first vineyard in Malibu and the only vineyard included in the Malibu-Newton Canyon AVA. George Rosenthal, the founder who created this winery over twenty years ago, still owns the estate.

This wine bar and patio have a coveted ocean view, which can be seen indoors or on their outdoor patio. On Saturdays and Sundays, which are 21 and over only, stop by to enjoy the various food trucks brought in to complement their wine tasting menu.
