Environmentally Responsible Commitment

By:

As Southern California’s largest exterior wood restoration company, we are committed to taking a leadership role in our industry involving environmental issues. It is our responsibility as a company to be informed and eco-friendly when working with wood and applying products to preserve it. We feel it is an honor working to preserve wood, Mother Nature’s naturally sustainable material.

At Teak Master, we are committed to doing our part in protecting our planet. We promote sustainability and eco-friendliness in our company by constantly examining and finding new ways to operate our company.

Teak Master Making a Difference

We prefer applying alkyd /oil solid coatings for wood surfaces that meet stringent VOC requirements. These alkyds are made from renewable plant based oils such as linseed and soy, and provide the highest level of protection for exterior wood surfaces. Our philosophy is using superior quality products that require fewer coats and less maintenance to ultimately minimize the total environmental impact.

95 percent of our finishes and preservatives are applied by hand thus reducing overspray and emissions.

Used steel and plastic cans, mineral spirits, and soiled rags are recycled weekly at certified waste management facilities.

Materials and supplies are reused until no longer possible.

We give preference to using FSC certified lumber for our repairs.

Used glass and plastic bottles, and paper materials located at our facility are recycled.

Biodegradable cleaning and stripping agents are used.

Our goal is to achieve 100% paperless correspondence.

Life Cycle Philosophy

Water based coatings are often promoted as more eco-friendly than solvent based counterparts. The environmental impact of a protective coating as a whole should be considered and is sometimes called the life cycle approach. A life cycle approach gives you the entire picture needed to make an accurate assessment of a coating. Water-based coatings can have material in them that are considered dangerous and non-renewable. VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) are not the only factor to consider. If a water-based product is made with petroleum byproducts, which involve intensive energy to produce, then just comparing VOC’s does not give the full story.

We prefer applying alkyd/oil high solid coatings for wood surfaces. These coatings are made of renewable plant based oils such as linseed and soy. These natural materials provide the highest level of protection for wood surfaces.

We believe that applying superior quality products that require fewer coats and less maintenance will minimize the total environmental impact.
