Jensen Jarrah

Jensen Jarrah has always been known for its use of fine Australian Jarrah wood timber. In their quest to use the world’s best materials, they recently started sourcing more sustainable options and rebranded to Jensen Outdoor. They still offer the best quality craftsmanship and durable products you’ve come to expect with the Jensen brand but have a greater commitment to ensuring all their products use sustainable materials.

At Teak Master, we’ve serviced Jensen furniture for countless clients throughout Southern California and are often recommended by Jensen directly. Let Teak Master help with all your Jensen wood restoration needs. We know the best products and processes for maintaining your Jensen furniture, whether it’s an older Jensen Jarrah or newer Jensen Outdoor.

Jensen Outdoor features furniture from some of the best designers in North America and Europe, showcasing the quality materials that go into each Jensen piece of furniture. If you are looking for outdoor furniture that is made with sustainable materials yet still stylish, Jensen Outdoor offers a wide selection of options. Here is a look at some of what sets Jensen Outdoors apart from other outdoor furniture manufacturers.

Jenson Outdoor and Sustainability

Jensen’s switch to more sustainable wood options supports its sustainability promise. They were one of the first outdoor furniture manufacturers who received a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. They source wood from certified sustainable forests in Eastern Bolivia, which is home to 3.7 million acres of certified forestland. Through Jensen’s Outdoor’s land-lease partnership with the local government, they manage over two million dry-tropical forest acres.

When you purchase a piece of furniture from Jensen Outdoor, they can tell you the exact location and tree that your furniture came from. By rotating which areas of the forest are harvested, it helps preserve the forest for years to come. This small-footprint harvesting technique ensures the same plot of a forest is not touched again for at least 30 years, which allows a full batch of mature Ipe trees to grow again.

Jensen Outdoor creates its collections to suit distinctive aesthetics in ways that’ll give your outdoor space a customized look while serving all your needs. Choose from a wide variety of styles and configurations. Fabrics are available in many colors and patterns, from neutral to bold colors that make a statement.

Options include the Classic Ipe Collection of traditional cottage styling in tables, armchairs, rocking chairs, bar sets, benches, dining sets, Adirondack chairs, gliders, chaise lounges, and other distinctive pieces.

The Coral Collection incorporates Danish styling that blends woven finishes with Ipe wood and fabrics. With the Coral Collection, you get swivel lounge chairs, dining sets, chaise lounges, sectionals, and deep seating. The Forte Collection blends traditional and modern design with wood and woven finishes incorporated into unique pieces, including ottomans, coffee tables, side tables, bistro sets, chaise lounges, and more.

Those seeking a contemporary look may want to choose the Jett set, which features sleek styling and a sophisticated look that incorporates Ipe wood, coated aluminum, high-pressure laminate, and fabrics into pieces, including a distinctive lounge chair with built-in tables.

High-Quality Materials

The style and sustainability of Jensen Outdoor furniture don’t mean you have to sacrifice quality and durability. The best materials are sourced from top to bottom when constructing pieces. These materials include:

Ipe Wood

Ipe wood is the crown jewel of Jensen Outdoor furniture. Ipe wood is twice as hard as teak and is more water-resistant and flame-resistant. As it ages, Ipe wood’s chocolate-brown grain starts to age into a silver patina.

Woven Viro Fiber

If you choose furniture with a mix of wood and fiber, Jensen Outdoor uses Viro Fiber, which is made from high-density polyethylene. These fibers are specifically engineered for outdoor use, so they are insensitive to temperature differences and are smudge-proof. Even when exposed to extreme conditions during summer and winter, these fibers won’t fade.

Jensen Outdoor achieves its signature woven patterns by hand-weaving each piece around commercial-grade, powder-coated aluminum frames. This process allows the fibers to conform to your shape, making your furniture more comfortable.

Viro Fiber is a better alternative to natural rattan, which doesn’t do as well in the outdoor elements. It’s also environmentally friendly as it’s 100% recyclable,  free from PVC, and non-toxic. Even if it sustains major fire damage, there are no toxic substances released.

Sunbrella Fabric

Jensen Outdoor uses Sunbrella cushions, renowned for their craftsmanship and durability. They are popular because they can retain their vivid colors for years to come. The fabric has great resistance to heat, rain, UV rays, and time.

How to Care for Your Jensen Outdoor Furniture

Ipe Wood

Protecting your Ipe wood furniture is important. When you first purchase a Jensen Outdoor piece, use Wood Shield, especially on chair arms and tabletops. This process helps protect against food and moisture stains. For regular light cleanings,  you can wash it with mild dish soap, rinse with clean water, and then let it dry.

As it starts to age and show its patina color, you can decide about having it restored or leave it with the silvery shade. Either way, any restoration work that needs to occur on your table should be done by a professional. Teak Master specializes in outdoor wood furniture restoration. Don’t risk your furniture by trying to handle the refinishing and restoring process on your own.

Woven Viro Fiber

The Viro fibers on your Jensen Outdoor furniture should be done by hand. Use lukewarm water, a non-foaming soap, and a soft cloth. Gently wipe the fibers with the mixture and use a bristle brush to clean and rinse with fresh water.

Sunbrella Cushions

To clean your Sunbrella cushions, hand wash with a gentle solution of 1/4 cup mild soap in a gallon of water. Put it in a spray bottle and spray the fabric surface. You should let it soak in for 15 minutes and remove any stains with a towel or sponge. Be careful not to scrub it with a brush. You can then rinse the fabric to ensure all soapy residue is gone and let air dry.

How Often Does Jensen Outdoor Furniture Need Cleaning?

Overcleaning and overtreating can cause more harm than good for woods like Ipe and teak. Most pieces do best when thoroughly cleaned annually unless exposed to excessive humidity or dust. Specialized sealers, applied after yearly cleaning, will help retain the color of the wood and inhibit the growth of mildew, fungus, and mold. Harsh cleaning chemicals, stiff brushes, and improper cleaning techniques like using a power washer can cause more harm than good.

While Ipe and teak wood are tough, the tools and techniques for cleaning them should be gentle. Use warm water mixed with mild soap. A small bleach mix into the cleaning solution will loosen mold and mildew.

How Teak Master Can Help Restore Your Jensen Outdoor Furniture

Protecting your wood furniture, whether it’s made from teak, Jarrah wood, or even Ipe, is crucial. Your outdoor furniture is an investment, and it can last you for years to come when taken care of properly. While the wood can last a lifetime without touching it, it will turn black and oxidize from exposure to contaminants and dirt that are constantly landing on it. This look is pretty undesirable, which is why people have their wood furniture restored and refinished.

You can achieve a variety of different looks depending on what protective coatings you choose and how often you refinish it. There are countless products on the market designed to restore and protect your wood. Choosing the right ones can be daunting. That’s why you should rely on the experts. At Teak Master, we have two decades of experience with wood restoration. We know which products work the best and how to care for your wood properly.

We have restored countless pieces of Jensen Outdoor furniture, both older products made with Jarrah wood and newer items made from Ipe wood. We have been referred numerous times by Jensen Outdoor to service furniture for their clients throughout Southern California.
